How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! (Isaiah 52:7)

November 2023

Dear Friends -

The Reading Room is specially designed, stocked and staffed to welcome and equip the newcomer in their quest for spiritual understanding and healing. Think of us when you see a visitor at church or a friend reaching out for spiritual solutions.

Our Lending Library is an ever increasing collection of important books and pamphlets on Christian Science.  The Bibles and Science & Healths are new and clean copies that anyone would appreciate borrowing. Check it out - literally.

This is National Bible Week - honor of this remarkable celebration the images in our header are a detail of a Tyndale Bible, the first English translations of that work, carried out by William Tyndale (c. 1494–1536).

North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC) - Occasionally there are those who visit the reading room in search of food and money. The staff first looks for ways to give the "cold cup of water" and the recogition of how that meets every human need.  However, The Board approved policy for those needing immediate practical help is to send them to North Fulton Community Charities.  In light of this policy we encourage each of your to consider your demonstration in supporting NFCC.  Annual coat and food drive information is below.

Articles on Peace - Executive Board commissioned the reading room to bookmark articles on peace.  These are found on our computers.  Please see staff if you wish to study these inspiring articles.  Each of the staff was asked to contribute a title.  Come see what they have discovered!

Thanksgiving Lesson - See information below.  Also, we look foreward to sharing a feast of gratitude together at our thanksgiving service later this month.

Angels know how to find you

By Joni Overton-Jung

From the October 2023 issue of The Christian Science Journal

perhaps you
like Elijah
have found yourself
running for your life
running from your life
huddled in a cave
thinking you are alone
that all is for naught
that you have fallen short
might as well pack it in
shut down . . . go to sleep.

beloved one,

angels always know
how to find you
in the darkest
reaches of despair

they come with light
and tenderness
to nudge you from the dark
to bathe and feed you
back to life
and even if you go back to sleep
there they are
beside you
lifelines of light
heralding God’s inescapable presence
propelling you up the mountain
to face what
you have fled from
and what you find
is that even when all hell
breaks loose—rocks breaking
wind howling
fires blazing

it is but a show—
and no match for
the still small voice
the unutterable all-ness
of ever-present Love

and you suddenly see
all that loomed
is but shadow
and no memory

because here, behold
the blazing, irrevocable surety
of your life and place
in the great goodness
the all-goodness
the inescapable goodness
that is God.
